ISMRM 2019: Dual Echo Blip Reversed Diffusion MRI by Onur Afacan et al.

To implement a dual-echo EPI sequence for DW-MRI and evaluate its efficacy in correcting field inhomogeneity changes induced by large and frequent head motions. Distortion correction strategy was evaluated on volunteers in multiple positions that would create a large field inhomogeneity change. A field map and a distortion free structural image were acquired at each position. Our results show that slice level corrections were able to produce field maps comparable to gold standard. We also show that slice-level distortion corrections improve the accuracy of SVR. Our results show that dual echo acquisitions with blip-reversed phase encoding can be used to generate slice level distortion free images, which is critical for motion-robust slice to volume registration.
